The Green Marvel

Moths of Pennsylvania

greenmarvel-edited.jpg

This is The Green Marvel, or Agriopodes fallax. It was caught on August 3rd at Adam's house at the mercury vapor light at about 10 p.m.

The Green Marvel is a small noctuid moth, with a wingspan of 1-1.5 inches. Its hindwings are whitish-gray, a stark contrast to its forewings, which are a striking green and black. The caterpillars feed on viburnum.

Covell's guide calls it uncommon, which has proven true as we have encountered it only twice.
